We hope that you will join us in filling this year with amazing projects, workshops and activities that help the people of Rugby to   Reduce \| Reuse \| Repair \| Recycle \| Regenerate Repair Café Next Saturday 17th October Come to our next Repair Café in the Eco Hub on Saturday 17th October. Lots of fixers are ready to repair your appliances, tools, clothing etc. It's also International Repair Day  and we're looking to expand the range of things we'd ready to fix. Rugby Eco Hub's Survey Please send us your Feedback Very excited to share this! Did you know that Rugby Eco Hub is doing its own "Monitoring & Evaluation" research project? This will both help highlight REH's achievements and inform future strategic decisions to make Rugby Eco Hub even better ⭐ A key point is to collect data from all Rugby Eco Hub users. Whether you're a volunteer, an occasional visitor, a project lead, or a trustee, we need you! If you can spare 10-15 minutes, could you fill in the survey linked below? This will provide us with incredibly valuable data to support this project. And … you can enter a prize draw if you fill it in 😉 Thank you ever so much!   Fill out the form HERE   Growing🌱Group High Sheriff hosted by Rugby Eco Hub Susan Rasmussen, Warwickshire’s High Sheriff (second from left) visiting 5 Acre’s pumpkin patch On Tuesday 22nd September, Warwickshire’s High Sheriff, Susan Rasmussen, visited 5 Acre community farm, hosted by Rugby Eco Hub and organised by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. She was interested in learning more about community food growing in Rugby. With our display boards we informed her about the Growing🌱Group’s and our partner Garden Organic’s work in town and across the borough in enabling more people to gain confidence in growing herbs, food and pollinating plants in their backyards, gardens and neighbourhoods. But the main focus of the visit was to introduce her to 5 Acre community farm, which is the Community Supported Agriculture farm for Rugby. She was deeply interested in the work on community food growing being done across the borough, and especially in the farm. She asked many pertinent questions and became engrossed in the biodiverse, productive and healthy environment that 5 Acre has created at the back of Ryton Gardens. She chatted with volunteers and, in reflecting her gratitude for the work they do, suggested they and the farm should have greater official recognition… and that many more people should know about the nutritious weekly veg boxes produced by the farm. Community Food Resilience During September, Rugby Eco Hub has hosted a couple of meetings at which the issue of Community Food Resilience has been discussed. These included a meeting of Rugby’s Community of Practice on food access at which, with Garden Organic, we facilitated a presentation and discussion about how it could be possible to reduce food insecurity and increase the food resilience of people in Rugby. One key outcome was the need for this group to include food producers in their discussions and seek better, direct links between producers and people in need of quality food. The driver of the emerging interest in community food resilience has been Prof. Tim Lang’s seminal report ‘Just in Case’ published in these times of multiple crises that threaten food production and distribution. It highlights the precarity of Britain’s food supplies and hence the urgency for government, councils and local people to take bold steps to ensure the food security of the population in the immediate and longer term. It advocates the formation of Community Food Resilience Committees. A letter to the Prime Minister about this issue, written by Tim Lang and others, was discussed at a meeting of the Warwickshire Climate Alliance (WCA) hosted by Rugby Eco Hub on 28th September. At this meeting Patrick Mulvany, Rugby Eco Hub, highlighted a number of examples where action is being taken locally within Britain and presented the letter which was then open for signatures and, subsequently, was signed by Rugby Eco Hub and two other members of the WCA. The letter was delivered to Number 10 Downing Street on Monday 5th October and has had widespread coverage in the media.   Do contact us if you would like to know more about this issue. A Rugby Nature Network? In September, we hosted a meeting organised by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust as a follow up to the Rugby Nature in Focus event held last year in Benn Hall. The purpose was to help Rugby to set up a network of people, organisations and nature across the borough. Rugby has many people and organisations that are doing something to protect and enhance nature in gardens, parks, allotments, nature trails, canal towpaths, conservation areas and woods, to name a few. It’s a timely initiative that would highlight the borough’s bountiful biodiversity, beautifully summarised in the RHS Magazine article ‘Rugby’s vision for a nature friendly town’ in which Rugby Eco Hub is quoted. The network could reap many benefits for Rugby’s residents and we have been urged to help facilitate this. If you are interested in making this happen, do let us know. We could also invite you to the next session, which is probably going to be held in the first fortnight of November.
