Got a Question?

We will put frequently answered questions here, but if you can't see your answer, please get in touch

Q. What items can be repaired

If you can carry it in and it doesn't use fuel then our volunteers will try and fix it for you.

If it does use fuel I'm afraid that we can't let it into the hall but if it's a nice day we may be able to look at it outside.

Q. How much does it cost?

We don't charge for fixing items but we really do appreciate a donation if you're happy with the service.

If we have used parts to do the fix (clocks, plugs, cables etc) then please help us replace these items by making a donation.

What happens if we need parts?

We hold a number of general purpose parts in our kits which we are happy to use to repair items.

If you need a specialist part then we will help you identify the part and where you can get the part. It is then up to you to buy the part and bring it along to another repair session when we will be happy to fit it for you.

How long does a repair take?

How long is a piece of string? We have no idea. Sometimes it can be a really quick fix and occasionally we may need more than one session to complete the repair. The earlier you arrive, the sooner we can start and the better the chance that we can fix it.

How many fixers do you have?

We have over 40 registered volunteers but we don't know exactly who is going to turn up for each session. We usually have around 8 or 9 fixers working each session.

Do you have specialist fixers?

Yes and no. Our sewers usually only fix garments and we do have a couple of electronics specialists but most of our volunteers will try their hand at most things.

Most volunteers work alone but some work in pairs and everyone shares knowledge and techniques when appropriate.

What happens if you can't fix it?

Then we will try and make sure that the item is recycled correctly and that we salvage any parts from it that may help with future repairs.

Do repairs ever go wrong?

Yes, but very rarely. Before you give us an item to fix you have to be OK with the possibility that we might break it even more. If you don't want to take that risk, then please tell us and we may be able to help you find a local, independent repair business who will do a more professional job, but will of course charge you.

Can I become a volunteer?

Yes, we are always looking for more volunteers to join our team. You can help us fix things or you can help host the sessions. You could help in the kitchen or at any of our other projects. Ask one of our team for details.
